Man found dead inside home died by gunshot wound

The Paulding County Sheriffs Office posted an update this evening about a man who was found dead at a Buchanan Highway residence on Wednesday.

Per a new release from the PCSO, they arrested Joseph Mykytyn III, 43, of 117 Ashford Drive, Dallas, on charges of murder, malice murder, aggravated assault – gun / other weapon and cruelty to person 65 years or older on Wednesday, July 13, 2022 and was booked into jail at 4:39 p.m. He remains in custody without bond set as of this evening.

The release explained that when officers arrived midday Wednesday to 10230 Buchanan Highway, Dallas, where they found the homeowner, James Entrekin, 66, dead inside of a gunshot wound. Deputies initially had trouble getting someone to respond when they arrived at the house, but eventually Mykytyn came out, and appeared to be intoxicated.

“It was later determined that Mykytyn was not a resident at this address,” the release stated. “Once deputies entered the home they located the homeowner…”

Paulding detectives and the GBI got a search warrant for Entrekin’s home, and then spoke with Mykytyn about what happened before they took him into custody.

“Entrekin died as a result of a gunshot wound and that the manner of death appears to be consistent with that of a homicide,” the release stated.
