A challenger in the 16th District State House race has gotten the support of a key local figure in the primary race underway now and that ends on May 24 with the forthcoming vote.
Local voters will want to take note that Amy Kelley was seen on the Scott Richards for State House Facebook page with Richards showing her support for the candidate.
Kelley, wife of Trey Kelley and currently separated as divorce proceedings between them continue, did not have any further comment on the matter.
Richards, a Dallas contractor, is seeking to unseat Kelley after nine years in the legislature. Kelley was previously indicted for his role in a fatal hit-and-run in 2019, but his indictment was dropped by Judge Stephen Schuster late last year.
Kelley was previously Majority Whip, but gave up that post back in November 2021.
Divorce proceedings that began last year are not yet finalized between the Amy and Trey Kelley.
Richards in recent days has been making appearances in Polk County, including a visit to the Eggs and Issues breakfast and the State of the Community event last week.
