Cooperation between two communities means that the surplus of one is helping to benefit the other as a timely donation of a vehicle provides another piece of the puzzle in putting the Aragon Volunteer Fire Department together.

Aragon’s Fire Department hasn’t been around since the 2010s, and last year Aragon Police Capt. Paul Mazzuca sought to bring the organization back through his own efforts of finding items they’ll need, and getting the old department’s fire truck back into the city and running smoothly.

Now with the help of the Paulding County Fire Department, that dream is one step closer to reality.

Paulding County Fire Chief Joey Pelfrey said the Paulding County Board of Commissioners voted to approve allowing the 1995 International Pumper truck from the reserve to be put up for surplus and donated to Aragon for the purposes of restarting the fire department.

“This truck will serve Aragon for quite a while,” Pelfrey said.

They also provided some additional miscellaneous equipment for the department as well, including respirators and air bottles.

Mazzuca reported that with the pumper truck and the fire engine now secured, this allows for the city to get more active in their recruitment in the days and weeks to come as they prepare for reactivating the fire department.

He said that there will be additional information coming up about applications to go out for volunteer firefighters, plus information about training opportunities before the department can go into service again.

Mazzuca’s hope is that the city will be able to see firefighters back in service by the autumn months of 2022.
