Commissioner Chuck Hart resigns, Special Election for his seat to be held during 2022 Primary

Sources say review may be underway over Hart’s residency status

The Paulding County Board of Elections posted a notice on their site that Commissioner Chuck Hart, who represented Post III around south and east Paulding, has resigned his post and that anyone interested can qualify for a special election to fill the rest of his term starting on Monday, March 14.

The resignation comes just as qualifying for his seat was about to open for Post 2, 3 and 4 Commission seats in the 2022 primary and general elections, being held on May 24 and later in November for the general.

The cost to qualify is $675.00 for Commission seats.

Qualifying for the special election will be held until Wednesday, March 16 at noon.

Those who seek the office should note that they would only be serving for the remainder of Hart’s term.

Candidates interested in qualifying will need to report to the cafeteria at the Paulding County Administration Building from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday and Tuesday, and 9 a.m. to noon on Wednesday.

The special election for his seat is technically a separate election just for Post III voters.

Per reports from sources with knowledge of the reasons behind Hart’s resignation, an Elections Office review is underway to determine whether Hart had been living in Paulding County within his post’s boundaries while serving as Commissioner.

Post III covers a portion of South and East Paulding County bordering Douglas and Cobb counties.
