The approach of Juneteeth this weekend brings with it a celebration in downtown Hiram, which is expected to briefly impede traffic with a parade around the small downtown area.

The upcoming Juneteeth: A Celebration of Freedom event is the first of its kind locally. The parade will cause traffic to shut down in the area around downtown Hiram – including Seaboard Street, Seaboard Avenue, Main Street, Norther Avenue, Powder Spring Street, Center Street, Oak Street and a portion of Highway 92 from 12 to 12:30 p.m.

The limited traffic interruption will only be occurring as the parade moves through these areas of Hiram.

The Juneteenth parade route was posted by the Hiram Police Department.

The parade will form at Gray’s Mill Park and be headed and followed by a rolling roadblock by the Hiram Police Department.

The Juneteenth at Rosenwald event coming up on Sunday will start at 11 a.m. and continue through 5 p.m. following the parade.

Food, children’s games, arts and crafts, vendor shopping and more will be available during the Juneteenth celebration. Proceeds are going toward the preservation of the Rosenwald School Museum at Greys Mill Park.

More than 30 vendors are expected to participate this year for the first ever gathering to celebrate Juneteenth at the Hiram Rosenwald School Museum.

Check back for coverage this coming week of the event.
