A longtime public servant and political operative with deep ties to Paulding County passed away on Friday, leaving behind a legacy of love of family, community and the people of Georgia in his wake.
William Craig Foster, 51 when passed on September 13.
He most recently served as Chief of Staff for the state’s Department of Human Services.
Prior to that, he worked for Gov. Brian Kemp as deputy director of policy and a senior policy advisor. Before joining the Kemp administration, Foster was a policy analyst for the Georgia House of Representatives’ Budget and Research Office for fifteen years
State Sen. Jason Anavitarte was among those paying tribute to Foster’s commitment to a long service with state government, including the time he loved working behind the scenes under the Gold Dome.
“Craig was not just a public servant but a loving father, husband, and member of our community. He will be sorely missed. My prayers are with his family during this difficult time as we remember his legacy of service, leadership, and care for others,” Anavitarte said in a statement provided to Paulding Today this morning.
Candice Broce, Director of DHS, posted the following on social media in tribute to Foster:
“Craig was my fiercest ally. He was a solid friend and stranger to no one. His loved ones are devastated. But we can’t forget to celebrate his life – selfless, happy, and well-lived – and comfort his family. His son, Brody, was Craig’s proudest accomplishment. Please pray for him and consider making a donation,” Broce said.
The family is also requesting donations to be made to Clark’s Christmas Kids in Foster’s honor.
Donations can be made online at dfcs.georgia.gov/about-us/clarks-christmas-kids or by check made payable to “DFCS Secret Santa.” Checks can be mailed to: DFCS Secret Santa at 47 Trinity Ave. S.W., Atlanta, GA 30334.
Benson Funeral Home is handling the arrangements, and plans call for a visitation on Wednesday, September 18 from 4 to 6 p.m. with a celebration of life to follow.
