ATLANTA — Today, Senate Bill 226, sponsored by Sen. Jason Anavitarte (R – Dallas), was formally signed into law by Governor Brian Kemp. SB 226 was one of a number of pieces of legislation designed to promote parental involvement in schools and protect students from harmful or obscene materials.

“As Georgia’s most critical asset, we must be doing all we can to protect our students in the classroom from exposure to any harmful or obscene material,” said Sen. Anavitarte. “After hearing first-hand accounts from concerned parents about some of the content being taught or made available to minor students in the school library, most of which any Georgian would agree has no place in a classroom, it was clear that changes were needed to better protect students from exposure to this kind of material. I was proud to sponsor this legislation and stand beside Governor Kemp this morning for the signing of SB 226, along with several other pro-parent, pro-student measures. While these are significant achievements, I look forward to continuing to ensure that our schools remain places where parents can be assured their child will not be exposed to any indecent content.”
